Is there ethical debate in science?

Is there ethical debate in science?

"Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase." – Daniel 12:4

Modern science is one of humanity's most important creations. It has led to the development of cures for various diseases, technologies for transportation and communication, and inventions to solve everyday problems. However, does it have any moral limits? Should there be ethical discussion within science?

There are indeed ethical discussions in science, such as:

1- Research integrity: this area involves discussions regarding plagiarism (unauthorized copying) and data falsification—practices that undermine the entire research process.

2- Research involving human subjects: when experiments are conducted on humans, participants must give their free consent, and potential harm must be assessed.

3- Discussions on animal testing: there are those who oppose animal testing, and efforts are being made to minimize harm.

4- Debates on new technologies: artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, and nuclear engineering.

Therefore, there is certainly room within science to debate ethical principles. This type of discussion is well-established in both science and the philosophy of science.
